Date Formats in Journeys

Custom date formatting - Date fields - Localised dates

Written by Anna Sóley Karlsdóttir

Date formats let you control how dates are displayed throughout your Journeys communications. This is especially useful when sending emails or messages to travellers in different regions or languages, ensuring dates appear in a familiar and readable format.

What are Date Formats?

Date Formats define how date values are rendered when used in dynamic fields.

For example, the same date can be displayed as:

Format

Example

European

1/9/2026

European Friendly

01 / Sep / 2026

US

9/1/2026

ISO

2026-09-01

Friendly

September 1, 2026

Icelandic

1. september 2026

Managing Date Formats

Date formats are managed in Settings → Formats

Here you can:

  • View all available date formats

  • Set the organisation's default date format

  • Edit existing date formats

  • Create new date formats by clicking Add date format

When creating a new format, enter a name, configure the desired date pattern, and save. The new format will immediately be available when selecting formats for date fields in communications.

The default format is automatically used whenever a date field is inserted without a specific formatting option.

Using Date Formats in actions

When composing an email or other communication, insert a date field as usual. You can then choose whether to use your organisation’s default date format or select a different format for that specific field.

To change the format:

  1. Insert a date field into your message.

  2. Click the date field Default.

  3. Select an existing date format from the dropdown, or create a new one directly from the menu.

This allows you to tailor how dates are displayed for individual messages without changing the organisation-wide default.

Notes

  • Date formatting only affects how dates are displayed, not the underlying date value.

  • Changing the organisation default will affect newly rendered date fields across the system.

  • Individual date fields can always override the default format when needed.
