What is the Journey Builder?

The Journey Builder is the visual workspace where you build and manage journeys. This is where you define how travellers enter a journey, what actions run, in what order, and under which conditions.

The Journey Builder uses a canvas-based layout where:

  • Triggers appear at the top

  • Actions flow from top to bottom

  • The journey can split into multiple paths using branches

Opening the Journey Builder

Journeys are stored inside workspaces. To open the Journey Builder, you first need to open the journey you want to work on.

When you open a journey from a workspace, you'll see a page with several tabs, including Travellers, Fields, and Settings. By default, the Travellers tab is selected and shows a table of travellers currently in the journey.

To open the Journey Builder:

  1. Open the journey you want to view or edit.

  2. In the top-right corner, click Open Journey Builder.

  3. The view switches to the Journey tab, where the workflow canvas is displayed.

Triggers

Every journey starts with one or more triggers.

Triggers define how travellers are added to a journey and always appear at the top of the workflow. A journey can have multiple triggers, depending on how it should be started.

Learn more about configuring triggers in Triggers.

Adding actions

You can add actions anywhere in a journey by clicking a + icon:

  • Between two existing actions

  • At the end of a journey branch

When you click +, an Add action sidebar opens showing all available actions, grouped by purpose. Selecting an action adds it to the journey, where you can immediately configure it.

Learn more about available actions in Actions.

Moving, duplicating, and deleting actions

Actions in the Journey Builder can be easily rearranged and reused.

Moving actions

  • Hover over an action to reveal the six-dot handle on the left

  • Click and hold the handle to drag the action

  • Drop it into a new position in the journey

Duplicating and deleting actions

  • Click the three-dot menu on the right side of an action

  • Choose Duplicate to create a copy with the same configuration

  • Choose Delete to remove the action from the journey

Navigating the Journey Builder

In the bottom-left corner of the Journey Builder, you'll find a navigation panel that shows available keyboard shortcuts for moving around the canvas.

Keyboard shortcuts

(⌘ on macOS, Ctrl on Windows)

  • Space + drag - Move the canvas

  • ⌘ / Ctrl + Mouse wheel - Zoom in or out

  • ⌘ / Ctrl + Plus (+) - Zoom in

  • ⌘ / Ctrl + Minus (-) - Zoom out

  • ⌘ / Ctrl + 0 / Home - Fit the entire journey into view

Managing the journey

From the Journey Builder, you can manage the journey itself in addition to editing the workflow.

You can:

  • Rename the journey

Click the journey name at the top of the page to rename it.

  • Mark the journey as a favorite

Click the star icon next to the journey name to add it to your favorites.

  • Edit journey details

Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Edit journey details to update the journey name or description.

  • Publish or discard changes

When you're done editing, choose whether to Publish changes or Cancel changes.

Publishing changes

Changes you make in the Journey Builder are saved as a draft until you publish them. When you are ready for your changes to take effect, click Publish changes in the top-right corner.

Please note:

  • Published changes apply only to new travellers added after publishing

  • Travellers who have already started the Journey continue following the version that was active when they entered

This allows you to improve a journey without disrupting travellers already in progress.
